Cultivating the Emergent: Exploring the Luminosity of Consciousness
"What is it about light that is so fascinating? Maybe it is because on some level we know that we are light.
How does one represent the luminosity, or inner glow, of consciousness in a painting?
That is the theme I've tried to explore since 1979. Light exists in its subtle form on the quieter levels of our awareness.
That is fun to attempt to represent, and that is the basis of my abstract paintings.
Light also exist in the dizzying displays of outward reality. That is also a joy to paint, but for me,
there always has to be the connection with the light of consciousness to be meaningful.
This connection between the inner and the outer is the inspiration of these semi-representational landscapes,
intended to invite the awareness to experience a more settled realm from which the glow of
consciousness emanates. Enjoy!" Thomas Taylor Rowe, 2009
