Twilight in Southern California. There one often confronts a vista that contrasts the silent, natural shapes of the gentle coastal mountains with the busy gaudiness of what passes for our civilization. There also, one often sees unusual colors at twilight, varying with the thickness of the smog layer. My lungs are glad that I live in Iowa now. But I do miss some of the interesting sky effects.
